Renaissance Dresses
Beauty and Elegance All in One
Even though the Renaissance times were limiting to women, there were some notable Renaissance women mainly from good noble families where they had been educated. A luxury not bestowed on many women.
In fact, many women were considered ornaments in their beautiful Renaissance dresses and not much else.
Good thing Maid Marian had other ideas.
We love this graceful and elegant Maid Marian Adult Costume that really gives off a feeling of royalty.
A light blue/grey velvet gown with beautiful intricate detailing on the bodice and on the sleeves, glittering gold lace trim along the square neckline and maroon accents on the attached belt and arm gauntlets.
A blue and gold headpiece featuring an iridescent organza veil tops the lavish look of this Maid Marian dress.
Back then, women had to obey their fathers, then later on their husbands.
Their job was to keep house, rear children and look after all the domestic chores such as cooking, cleaning and sewing. They were not considered intelligent nor logical and were mainly viewed as a man’s property.
Luckily, this period produced a few powerful and very shrewd Renaissance women who bucked the trend. Still beautifully dressed in their Renaissance dresses, with exquisite manners and up bringing, these women would either directly or indirectly rule the roost. And good for them!

Underneath all that femininity often lies nerves of steel. With men often away or at war, women had to look after their family and homes.
It was not easy and many would dream of marrying better or higher in the social class to escape the drudgery.
Well, you will not have a problem in this Irish lass Renaissance dress but be warned that there are a few separate pieces to purchase to achieve this look.
This dark emerald green is a sleeveless dress that opens up (the yellow gathered skirt, black ring belt
and white crop blouse
seen in the picture are sold separately)
The bodice is lace up and because it is boned (like in the Renaissance times), it has a push up function that is very effective to show off a woman’s assets.
Like all Renaissance dresses, much attention would have been paid to details and workmanship, which is what this premium quality dress has.
Whether you are dressing up as Ophelia in King Lear by William Shakespeare, or posing for the next picture by the painter Raphael; this stunning purple Renaissance lady costume will have you looking totally the part.
What is so beautiful about this dress is its simplicity. This is where ‘less is more’ comes in. A rich purple velvet gown that sweeps the ground as you walk with bell shaped sleeves.
The moss grey embroidered looking trims adds a noble touch.
The bodice has an ivory tie to lace up in front.
Don’t forget your tumbling curls – a must have for all Renaissance ladies.

A Renaissance woman is a woman of intellect and accomplished in both the arts and sciences.
The inspiration for this beautiful black jewel costume comes from the Aragon region in northern Spain.Joined together with Castile in 1497, it is now part of modern day Spain.
The Aragon black Renaissance dress has a square neck line framed with a pretty trim; the puff in slash sleeves reveals the whiteness of the puff sleeve.
Twill inner lining keeps the bodice stiff in keeping with the clothing of those days.
The opening of the dress reveals a mauve colored satin petticoat underneath and on each side of the opening, there is a blue trim detail with gold embroidered fleur de lys.
For something a bit more formal, wear a hoop skirt underneath to give the costume extra volume.
This dress is also available in red and will make an equally stunning Renaissance outfit.
Anne Boleyn was conducting a secret affair with King Henry VIII whilst he was still married to Catherine of Aragon, with whom he had been married to for twenty four years.
She became his second wife and produced three children – two sons and a daughter. But her reign did not last long, three years after the marriage, she was accused of having various affairs and was beheaded.
She was young and beautiful and this costume captures the fair beauty that was Anne Boleyn completely.
This brown and olive green Anne Boleyn Heritage Renaissance Gown has an interesting outer texture, a peach colored ruffle neck trim, a gold design on the olive under skirt and gold trims and lace ties.
The most eye catching part is the olive and gold headdress. Very regal and very royal looking.
The Renaissance period left much behind for us to enjoy with craftsmanship and artistic expressions that are still admired world wide today : the Sistine Chapel by Michelangelo in Italy, Chateau Versailles in Paris, the Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci, and much more.
